It's some distance away from the apartment itself. With the wind, it's out of earshot. Sherlock's bundled in a coat and scarf: clearly, not being overheard is important to him.]
Over here! [he calls.]
no subject
And just going to lean on the railing next to Sherlock.]
Okay so...?
no subject
[Where to begin?]
...the negotiations with the humans are settled. We will have a significant percentage of the profits, and they will be in production by the start of December.
But --
[Here's where it is. Sherlock's expression turns sober, and his ears rotate back, then forward again.]
....There is something else I would like to do with your radios.
no subject
That's good to hear!
[Honestly Donnie is still in this to spite a bunch of Fog followers, so it's not occurred to him that this could help him rise in the ranks, and he hasn't put two and two together with Sherlock either. Although Sherlock turning serious does concern Donnie a little.]
Something else, like what?
no subject
Perhaps even across the peninsula. It would be convenient for some to travel instantly to Haftesal, or the Bruten Islands, or even Vandare or Kulen. But even within Bavan itself, to be able to travel to the clinic, or the Multiversal Museum, or any other district in the city in an instant...that is valuable, to the followers who are at rank three or higher.
[Including Rachel. And -- himself, and Donatello, if this goes according to plan.]
I would, of course, maintain them myself. I believe I have learnt enough from you that if one goes down, I could repair or replace it effectively enough.
no subject
You're going out of your way to help Fourth followers, it makes a turtle think... Things.
no subject
[This is it, though, isn't it? This is where Sherlock decides whether he tells Donatello, or does not.
He could, probably, make a flat-out denial, and a convincing one at that.]
I have been -- hesitant to align myself with either god too openly. In both cases, being too obvious -- it puts a target on your back. Puts both you and your loved ones at risk.
[But...
...he doesn't particularly want to do that. Sherlock knows, by now, that lying and maintaining lies, working alone, is not the right course of action, and blows up in your face when dealing with other monsters.
He gives Donatello a serious, intent, flat look.]
You understand that if I were to confirm to you that I were pledged to Elias, I would be relying on you to keep the secret? That, if it were to get out, it would put not only myself, but all whom I associate with in danger?
no subject
[Before Donnie kind of spilled the beans, but let us not dwell on that fact at all. It hasn't come to bite them in the ass just yet! As he leans forward on the railing when Sherlock continues and well...]
I mean, I'm a horrible liar so maybe it's better to just leave me to my assumptions.
no subject
Good man, Donatello.]
Then, [he says, with both approval and finality,] I will neither confirm nor deny it. But should you encounter a particular Fourth follower, a werewolf by the name of Rache, do understand that he can be trusted as well as you trust myself.
[Again: neither confirming, nor denying, that they are the same person. Sherlock is taking the offer of plausible deniability Donnie is presenting him with, but also presenting Donnie with the necessary information.]
no subject
I'll keep that in mind, and if I run into him with Leo I'll make sure Leo knows he's good too.
[But he won't tell Leo that Rache and Sherlock might be the same person.]
no subject
Very good, then.
...
There was one other matter I wanted to discuss.
If I plant radios in hidden locations, there is the risk they will be found by those who follow the Fog God.
All the ones currently in existence bear your maker's mark.
[The kid signs all of his inventions. And while Sherlock respects it, he has to bring up the reality of the situation.]
Even if they did not, and your signature was filed off, it would not be a difficult thing to compare their make to the ones that will be on the market next month.
Knowing that, are you willing to have them out in public?
This is your chance to say no. I will only move forward with the plan if you agree to it.
no subject
His tail twitches as he silently doesn't response at Sherlock's offer, twisting the possible outcomes of him saying no or yes to this over in his head. Saying no means he would be kind of cramping other Fourth followers ways to get around, people like Ray, but saying yes kind of is putting himself in the crosshairs and well...]
I'm fine with what you're doing, thanks for even considering my opinion, though.
[And he means it, he's kind of used to either his opinion ignored in some way.]
no subject
[He gives a nod, then makes a broad gesture with one hand.]
You are as much a part of this as I am, sharing the risks, and, hopefully, the rewards. It would be wrong not to take your wishes into account, and to leave you unaware of the danger.
[He's quiet for a moment. Then, Sherlock straightens, standing up from the wall, and folds his arms behind his back.]
The agents, who worked for my brother. All too often, they would wind up dead. He told them only what he felt they needed to know -- moving them around like they were no more than chess pieces. [The anger and disgust as he says that is subtle, but present.] Perhaps that is what one signs up for, when one goes into the intelligence service. And yet, it never seemed right to me.
[He's pretty sure he's mentioned this to the turtles before, but it bears repeating, in this case.]
It is true that I have secrets of my own. I have concealed these activities from all but my closest confederates. Bucky knows, and so does Rachel. Now, you have the information needed to draw your own conclusions. Everyone else, even Jon, is utterly ignorant. Still...
[Where, precisely, is the difference between what he is doing and what Mycroft is doing? Or, for that matter, what Donnie and Leo did in July?]
...I don't want to use you. Not the way he does. I would sooner compromise my own secret than see you come to harm. Remember that, if it becomes a question.
[He won't keep all this under wraps at all costs. Just until the cost of keeping it is greater than the risks that accompany revealing it. He and Donatello are a team, collaborators, and Bucky would be at risk if the matter were cause trouble.
He should probably tell Leo.
...
After he reaches the third tier.]
no subject
[He does listen to what else Sherlock has to say on the subject though, especially the comparison to his brother. Donnie tilts his head at that, confused because well...
In his case he wants to be so much like his own brothers, in certain areas, that it kind of doesn't make sense to him. But Sherlock continues on, about who actually knows the truth and who doesn't and how he's rather give up his secret than see Donnie come to harm.]
Well you don't need to worry about that. I've been used by an adult I trusted once before, I try to avoid it happening again. But like, your secret is safe with me.
no subject
Thank you, Donnie.
[He means it.]
...
Would you care to tell me what happened? The last time someone used you.
[Sherlock finds he actually wants to know.]
no subject
Eh, it was a parent aged adult who complimented my work and then turned on us in a bad way. Not much more to it then that.
no subject
I see. Well -- it is quite sensible to endeavour to avoid repeat occurrences.
[And to be aware of the possibility that not everyone who is nice to you and compliments you means well.]
That was all. I'll keep you informed of further developments.
no subject
[Is all Donnie has to say on that subject, and really if Sherlock wanted to know he could always grill Leo about it.
As to being kept informed, Donnie nods as he moves to leave.]
Thanks, hopefully you won't need to do that.
[And he'll take his leave of Sherlock now.]
